Running a pallet shop means never running out of boards. We cut deck boards, stringers, and cants on our own hardwood mill and put them on a standing schedule — so your line keeps nailing.

The mill · since the 1950s
Seven decades of lumber on one six-acre yard
For more than fifty years, Townsend Lumber milled and shipped wood from this six-acre yard on Railroad Street. When it finally closed its doors, the village of Clayton could have lost its lumber trade for good.
Instead, in 2007, a team with decades of combined experience in softwood, hardwood, and packaging set up shop on the same ground — a couple of saws, one tractor-trailer, and a simple idea about how a lumber supplier ought to treat its customers.

The founding idea · 2007
Then 2008 hit, and the lumber industry took some of its hardest years in memory. Clayton Lumber's answer was to build: a sawmill and gang saw in 2008, a complete state-of-the-art mill by 2011. The company that started in a recession now cuts, treats, stamps, and delivers across three states — on its own trucks, from the same yard.

A new company fills the void — a couple of saws, a tractor-trailer, and a team with decades of experience.

Sawmill and gang saw added to cut hardwood for pallets, dunnage, and crating — while the industry shrank.
